Up to date Glastoonbury blog from the folks at BBC's 6 Music. Looks like they might have bad taste in music though - especially since they enjoyed Pryamid Stage openers The Darkness. Possibly one the of worst new bands and one of the leaders of a terrible new trend in reviving 80's glam heany-metal.

If there wasn't enough going on the the jet set festival going people who live in Europe with Glastonbury going on this weekend.   On Friday in the Czech Republic there's a open air night of some of the best electronic music around.   Sets by both Adam Freeland as a DJ and as Free*land (his live band.)   He's appearing Sunday at Glasto. Check out the sweet location.

Here's an interesting article from Jo Blo's Movie Site about a dude getting caught for sharing a pirated movie. This time it was the Hulk and it was 2 weeks before the movie was even out. Pretty interesting to see how they traced it back to this one guy. The dude is facing a felony charge. This along with the recent RIAA RIAA announcements might start a decline in the online sharing of movies and music. Yeah Right!

I wish I was here - Radio 1's Live Pyramid Stage web camI thought I was jealous of the folks who went to Coachella this year.   Well that jealousy doesn't compare to the jealousy to the people attending Glastonbury this year.    I found a site with the full line up with times in a nice spread sheet fashion.  Line-ups link courtesy of Rock-Roll No Fun   I printed it off and planned my weekend like I was actually going.   (I know I am sad).    People have already started setting up camps.  For those of you like me, you can check out the webcasts for some excellent bands on Playlouder.   I'm definitely planning on checking out Super Furry Animals and Doves (I am dying to hear some new songs from these guys)  Maybe even Interpol and the Lips.

Whatevs has taken over themodernage for my favorite blog.   Great site that distills of bunch of the best pop-culture info that I am addicted to.    Plus the blog originates from the same state as me.   Make sure to check it out because it really is a great blog.

Not sure how long this will be available, but here is free 1 year subscription to The Week.   I think it's a great little magazine, it compiles articles from other magazine and newspapers from around the world and serves 'em up.  Check out the magazine's website here.   A normal subscription is pretty expensive. (courtesy of john's crawlspace Also for more cheap magazine deals check out the deals at Ableshoppers for 6/22 and 6/23.  Entertainment Weekly for $4/year.

Eminem ripped it up in England this weekend.   The show featured 50 Cent, Cypress Hill, D12, Xzibit, and Obie Trice.   There were 70K people there to see one of the worlds biggest stars.    Many celebrities should up including 50 Cent fan Gary Oldman.  Maybe his character, Drexl Spivey in True Romance rubbed off on his real life interests.

The crowd for Coldplay at the Molson Amp in Toronto courtesy of Coldplay message board member BravaToronto vs. Chicago:   This past Monday I saw Coldplay play at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.   This was the third time seeing the boys.   The first time was at the Rivera in Chicago, the next time was in Toronto at the Sears Theater at the Air Canada Centre.   That second time in Toronto I saw a great show.   Chris and the boys were eating up the energy from the crowd,  everyone was singing along, and quite a few times took over from Chris.   Chris was talking to the crowd a lot and was quite funny.  The sound was great and the set they played as excellent as it included most of their two excellent CDs.   This past Monday was not so great.  A lot of the crowd stayed seated most of the show only coming to their feet when during 'Yellow' Chris dropped to his knees pleading for the crowd to get up.   When Chris asked the crowd to sing along to 'Everything's Not Lost' hardly anyone was singing, as if they didn't know the words.   The show was sold out, but the crowd was dead.  Chris barely spook and although he and the band were putting energy into the songs just seemed like they were going through the motions.    On the other hand my sister-in-law, a die hard Coldplay fan got the opportunity to see them this past Wednesday in Toronto.   She said they were awesome, interacting with the audience and playing a great set capped off with a second encore of Echo and Bunnymen's 'Lips Like Sugar' and 'Life is for Living'.   Then after that the whole band came to the front of the stage and took a bow.   She said the crowd was singing and cheering them the whole time and everyone was having a great time.    Anyway the point of this thread is that the crowd can make a huge difference at a show and next time one of my favorite Brit bands comes over to North America for a show I will be seeing them in Toronto.    And I just read today that RADIOHEAD is going to be playing the Molson Amphitheater on August 16th a Saturday.  I am so there.

And from themodernage: (This has to be made up.)

PALTROW AND MARTIN ENGAGEMENT CELEBRATION

World Entertainment News Network

Hollywood star GWYNETH PALTROW and COLDPLAY rocker CHRIS MARTIN celebrated their engagement at a star-studded party in New York last week - at Paltrow's mother's insistence.

Actress BLYTHE DANNER was so happy when she heard her daughter's intention to marry the British singer she quickly organized a celebratory get together at the family home - inviting stars including MEG RYAN, STEVEN SPIELBERG and his wife KATE CAPSHAW, MIKE MYERS, CHRISTINA APPLEGATE and SHERYL CROW.

A source tells Britain's NOW magazine, "Blythe's overjoyed about the engagement. She adores Chris and thinks he's been a godsend for her daughter, so she shot into action to whip up the engagement party.

"It was a small, intimate affair for Gwynnie's closest friends and for Blythe to show off her engaged daughter. After all she's had two false starts to the altar and her mother will be thrilled to see her finally get there."

The family friend adds that the pair will marry in a lavish ceremony in New York this December.

They say, "Gwyneth's going to have a proper white wedding in church and her godfather Stephen Spielberg will give her away. Then there will be a reception and dinner, possibly at the WALDORF HOTEL. Expect a classy, traditional wedding
with most of Hollywood turning up to toast the new bride."

The new Radiohead CD is a wonder to behold. It took me about 10 listens, but now is the only thing I even want to listen to. Amazing, my favorite song on the CD is rotatating daily. It's also great to hear and see the guys doing tons of press and seeming like they really enjoy it. I can't wait to see them live. My cousin was lucky enough to see them at the Field Day and he said they played a great set.

I've been reading a really cool book called the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.  It's a great quick read and has many interesting facts about Da Vinci and secret societies.  It might be fiction but it is written in a way that make the messages in the book seem completely plausible.   On the subject of books here's a great site that helps in finding excellent deals online for books.   It's called FetchBook

And on the subject of deals you can get the new 3 disk Special Edition of Black Hawk Down at mysony around $17 shipped.   I ordered a copy on Friday and am waiting to hear for when it's shipped, but I think they got swamped with orders since they have the cheapest price around by about $7.    I thought the movie was enjoyable and had a great cast.  Also I love collecting DVDs that have a ton of features that really cover all aspects of the movie and this one definitely seems like it does.    Check out the features:

The new Jane's Addiction 'Strays' has appeared online.   I gave it a listen to this morning and it's not as bad as I feared.   The reason I feared that it was going to be bad was that after so many years and after so many different things going on with each of the members could they really come back together and produce a set of new songs that felt anywhere close to their Dionysian first three releases.   While none of the songs can compare to '1%', 'Ted Just Admit It', 'Standing in the Shower, 'Three Days', etc.. in that primal feeling I got listening to these songs back in the day, it's really not that bad.   Steve Perkins drumming does not sound as tribal as it used to on previous Janes' and Porno for Pyros' songs, but it's still really good.   I am looking forward to listening to this a few more times before I really make up my mind.    I'd love to see them on Lollapaloza this summer.   Seeing them live on the '91 version was probably one of the top three shows I've ever seen.    I found this pretty cool message board posting from long time fan that seems to be going kinda of mad.   Also here's an excellent Janes' site with concert reviews.    And finally you can listen to the new single, 'Just Because' online here.

Isn't this a cool picture of Bjork?  Click on it for a review from a recent show-from a guy who loves her "Vespertine is the most forward thinking album ever made"  - not sure about that but I really liked the picture.

Check out BBC Radio 1's show 'One World' for a 2 hour look into Punk Funk, (tracklisting) or rather rock that you can dance to.   It features the Rapture, Radio 4 and the founders of DFA Records, who one is one of the three founders of Mo' Wax.   Rolling Stone recently had a short blurb about this scene and forgot to mention the Baggy scene from Manchester which was the original rock-that-you-can dance-to scene as it mixed indie rock and techno.
