Check out the new NME mag (with the excellent cover) for a interview with Thom. I think I might wait for the actual release of the CD to really listen to it. As reported before the tracks available on the internet were an early mix of the CD. I know I have to wait, but for once I would like to experience that "release day" feeling, where you curl up with the CD (in this case the Special Edition version), some nice headphones and a few reviews and really 'Listen' to the CD. The Super Furry Animals tracks from their new CD "Phantom Power" are also supposed to be early mixes. After hearing these versions I kind of feel let down as it does not really impress me (kind of sad because I totally love all their previous releases). Maybe the proper mixed versions and their watching and hearing the DVD release will help me enjoy it more. Finally some Travis news to report. I have been waiting and waiting for some news as to when we can expect a new CD. Can't wait for that and for when the tour again, as they are a great live band. According to the NME article they are almost complete with the new CD. Let's hope the release it by the fall. Tuesday, April 22, 2003

Click on the pic of Futura for a link and go to the news for 04/19. ![]() The new Super Furry Animals disc (Phantom Power) is already available on Soulseek. The disc isn't out until July 14th. From the yahoo SFA group message board I guess they appeared there on Friday. the funny thing was that I as I was driving back from Chicago this weekend I was thinking that I should run some searches on soulseek for and and what do you know once i get home I found it there. From what I remember their last CD, the excellent Rings Around the World, was on Audiogalaxy early too. I can't wait to hear the new disc. It was produced by Mario Caldato Jr., who also produced a few Beastie Boys CDs. I am a huge fan of SFA and can't wait to buy the DVD as it's going to be released along side the CD and will feature surround sound, cool videos, and remixes of each song. (Note:the songs on Soulseek are not labeled correctly and from what I gather some songs are missing - maybe instrumentals.) From NME here is the full tracklisting:

Also on the topic of mixes, check out the excellent UNKLE site: UNKLE 77. They have a great download section that features many excellent mixes. This week (until this Monday) they have a great mix from Frome (Richard File who is James Lavelle's collaborator and DJ Shadow's replacement on the upcoming UNKLE CD.) Not only does this site have excellent downloads, but it has the most up to date UNKLE news and info on the web. Look for more mixes in the future. BTW the mix features Frome's excellent "Kick a Hole" This song was featured on James Lavelle's Fabriclive 01 Mix as well as the amazing Tai Mix (my favorite of the three) on the "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Beats" Mix CDs. ![]() More news from atease is that Radiohead plan on releasing a Special Edition on their new CD "Hail to the Thief". It comes with a DVD and a fold-out map. I can't wait to get my hands on that! Here's the cover for the new single "There There". Monday, April 14, 2003
I am a fan of the excellent South. However I have never seen them live and I'm not going to Coachella. I would love to since their sound makes me believe that they would be an amazing live band that can really groove. I found an excellent South fan-site that has a link to some live audio. (this unfortunately is the closest I'll get to experiencing them live for a while.) Thursday, April 10, 2003
More on the Roses tip I just saw that NME has a new NME Originals out that is all about Manchester in the early 90's - Madchester to be precise. I have to check the local Barnes and Nobles to see when and hopefully if the get it in. I have the Oasis and the U2 ones and they are really good. These one-off magazines that basically collect all the interview, articles, and record reviews from the pages of the NME (something I used to do anyway). If you are a fan be sure to check it out. As most of you who do read this site know, The Stone Roses are one my all time favorite bands. I just found the best and smartest Stone Roses site ever. It's called This is the Daybreak and has a ton of articles, lyrics and discussion of every Stone Roses song, and best of all, very smart interviews with the people who where around and close to the band when they were "IT" including John Leckie (producer of their great debut), Paul Schroeder (Engineer), Simon Dawson (another engineer) and Ian Tilton (photographer of many excellent and memorable shot of the Roses, including the pics from their debut album.) Check out Ian Tilton's own site. If you are a fan be sure to check out this great site! I also found a cool concert poster site. Check it out here. : ![]() ![]() The Clash are started to get their due, after bugging up the death of Joe Strummer by hardly reporting it, Rolling Stone and Spin have had articles on the significance of the Clash and Joe Strummer. Today at Xfm I read that they are planning on releasing a DVD companion to the excellent 'The Essential Clash' compilation. I was actually just watching the excellent, and Grammy winning, 'Westway to the World' documentary, they were planning on re-releasing it this year with some extras (presumably their promo videos.) I am happy they are going to release a whole other DVD since it will probably have more stuff then what was planned on the release of Westway. Anyway check out the Xfm article and the Westway site and peep the DVD tracklisting:

DVD Video Special Features:
It looks kind of light, couldn't have they included a whole live show. I hope the price will reflect the meager quantity on the DVD. You can buy the documentary here for a very good price. Thursday, April 03, 2003
I've been listening to this great chill-out group called Neon Heights, I first heard them on the Breezeblock Set they did on Radio 1, which is still one of the best I have heard so far, and I got a hold of their CD from a few years ago called, "A View From The Heights", take a look for it, and look out for their new CD supposedly out in May. They played a few new songs on the Breezeblock set and they sounded great.

The new Radiohead CD posted all over the web is not in fact the final mix. I'm happy that I have them, but I am not as interested in listening to it as I was before. I did give the songs a quick listen and they do sound good, again it takes me a while to take in Radiohead. I am thinking about waiting for the final mix or even the release of the new CD to really listen to this new CD. Another great band, that very few people know about, The Bluetones, have announced their new CD. It's called 'Luxembourg' and its going to be release on the 12th of May. I'm sure that it will not get a domestic release, but if anyone from the US is interested in getting it, check out cd-wow since they have great prices and free shipping. Check out the Bluetones page to download an mp3 'I Love the City' a track from their upcoming CD. Blur has announced that they are not going to be releasing the their excellent UK single 'Out of Time', but instead they are going to release the more upbeat (and Fatboy Slim produced) 'Crazy Beat'. I can't believe this. Crazy Beat is one of the worst songs on the new CD. It's sounds like a gimmick song that some one-hit wonder band would release, except this song would not be that one hit. I know Damon has feelings that general public in the US are not as tasteful as the general public in the UK, but come on, we are not that stupid to like this crap. Hey I like the new Blur CD, but I skip this track every time. Even after saying all that I can see why they would think this song would do well since it has that pop-punk type of vibe. Coldplay did the same thing, they released the excellent, excellent down-tempo 'The Scientist' in the UK and the rest of the world, but chose to release the more 'rocking' 'Clocks' here in the US. Most people I talked to who have 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' (pretty much everyone I know under 35) think that 'The Scientist' is one of the best songs and I've seen it's been added to many a radio stations play-list along with 'Clocks' I got the Beatles Anthology DVD yesterday and gave some of it a spin. The songs mixed in DTS sound amazing in surround sound. I watched their video to 'Rain' Not only did it sound great, but the video quality is excellent. I've seen most of this, over 10 hour documentary, a few times already, since I watched my taped VHS copy of the 6-hour ABC special. I can't wait to watch it all again on my home theater. |
